Joseph Bacon of Guilthwaite
Joseph Bacon, a miner was married to Susannah (Nee Thompson), had a son Joseph, who was born 1873 in Derbyshire. It is not known when Joseph Snr died, but he was not living in 1895 at the time of his son's marriage. The 1881 census shows Susannah had remarried a William Burgin, and was living at Staveley.
Joseph Bacon Jnr, married Edith Eliza Shaw on 13/08/1895 at Whiston. Children:
- Hilda Gertrude, b. 1896, Whiston; moved to South Africa with her sister Marjorie. She d. 04 Nov 1951, Gold Mine Johannesburg South Africa; m. Sidney Henry Penney; d. 25 Aug 1961, Lady Dudley Nursing Home Johannesburg.
- Marjorie Alice, b. 1898, Whiston; Moved to South Africa m. Henry Wilford Cowling (d. 23 Sep 1957).She died 1983, Johannesburg;
- Joseph Reginald Bacon, b. 1900, Whiston; married in 1928, to Ellen Wild of Thurcroft; b. 1907, Mansfield; d. 1995, Whiston.
Joseph Reginald, was known as Reginald. He was raised by his maternal grandmother Eliza Shaw at Ivy cottage after the death of his mother in 1908. He died in Moorgate Hospital in 1961,and was buried at Whiston with Ellen.
