John Robert CHAFER (1861-1942) Epworth m. 1884 Epworth, Lincs.to Caroline COGGAN (1858-1928) Epworth son Wm/Amelia Glew.

In 1881 John Robert was a Farm Servant at Lorns Farm, Belton Road, Epworth for John Selby, and his wife to be, Caroline Coggan was a servant for John Selby's brother Johnson, at Chapel Street, Epworth.

John and Caroline must have moved to Rotherham after their marriage as all the children were born at Bent Laithes Farm:

Was John William (1898-1954) founder of J.W. Chafer Ltd. and Chafer Spraying Co. Ltd., Doncaster

George. W. CHAFER born Bradford,16 April 1894, son of Lucy (1894-1966). He was a Private in the 1st Bn East Yorkshire Regiment. He received the Victoria Cross for action at Méaulte, France during WW1.

Before the war he worked at a pit. When he came back to Rotherham after the war he worked in Dairy and Poultry farming for a while before joining the Civil Service. He retired in 1958 and died age 71 on 1 March 1966. He was cremated at Rotherham Crematorium.
