Whiston Families

Elam Family of Whiston

In 1658 Thomas ELAM married at Wickersley to Marie GILBERTHORPE.

 

William Elam of Rotherham (living 1711) was married to Frances only child of George and Ann Fretwell. In 1735 Frances had remarried a Goodwin, and was living at Coventry Court, p. St. Martin-in-the-Fields (Mdx.).

 

Thomas ELAM, b1725 Rotherham m. 1747 Mary TAYLOR, b1726 Treeton, daughter of Robert. Children born Wickersley:

Ann ELAM, b1785 Treeton, daughter of James. Child:

John ELAM, b1767 Whiston, son John Elam, m. 1767 at Sheffield to Eliz. Roddey, daughter of John.Sr from Wath Children born Whiston:

John ELAM, b1792 Whiston m. in 1810 at Whiston to Elizabeth HAMMOND (b.1791 Whiston, daughter of Thos/Mary. Children born Whiston:

 

Maria ELAM, b1794 Whiston, had a son b1821 John Hammond

 

Thomas ELAM, b1814, Whiston m. Mary Ann. Son Thomas Hammond b1840 Whiston

 

Elizabeth ELAM, b1822 Whiston. Children born Whiston:

James Elam was b. 1818 at Brampton-en-le-Morthen, he was married to Mary b.1820 Shottle, Derby. In 1881 they were living at Toad Lane, Brampton-en-le-Morthen.

 

George ELAM b.1812 Brampton, a Farm Servant was living at Rotherham Union Workhouse in 1881.

 

NOTE: There were many ELAM's in Snaith during the 1500s. Some ELAM's arrived in the Rotherham area in the early 1600s.
