Whiston Families

Genner

William Gennoe born 1859, Little Dawley, Shropshire came to Rotherham in the middle 1880s to work at a Coal Mine. He was a lodger within the Nickless Household. The Nickless family also came from Dawley. When Daniel passed away William Gennoe married his widow Annie Nickless (nee Osborne) in 1891. Annie was daughter of John Osborne from Madeley, Telford, Shropshire. In William and Annie were living at Goosebutt Street Parkgate with their children:

James William Genner was born in 1891 at Rotherham, he married Ann Elizabeth Cornwell (1893-1953) in 1913.

 

 

Ann Elizabeth Cornwell (1893-1953) was the daughter of Thomas Cornwell (1871-1950) of Bottisham, Cambridgeshire and Elizabeth White (1873-1907) of Rawmarsh, Rotherham.

At one stage, they lived at Fernlea, 8 Brunswick Road, Broom.

James William Genner (1891-1968) was Gardener and Groundsman for Ben Bennett at Whiston Grange and later started a business at Guilthwaite Nurseries with his sons

Margaret Anne(Nee Haslam) of 117 Main Street, Aughton and John Genner son of J. W. Genner of The Nurseries, Guilthwaite, married at Talbot Lane Methodist Church. They lived at Rotherwood Lodge, Orgreave after they were married.

Rotherwood Hall, Highfield Lane, was once home to the Sorby's owners of Dore House Colliery.

John E died in 2005 and was buried at Whiston Parish Church
