Genner

William Gennoe born 1859, Little Dawley, Shropshire came to Rotherham in the middle 1880s to work at a Coal Mine. He was a lodger within the Nickless Household. The Nickless family also came from Dawley. When Daniel passed away William Gennoe married his widow Annie Nickless (nee Osborne) in 1891. Annie was daughter of John Osborne from Madeley, Telford, Shropshire. In William and Annie were living at Goosebutt Street Parkgate with their children:

• James William (1891-1968) m. Ann Cornwell
• Ann Genner (1893-1967) m. Harry Marshall
• Elizabeth Genner b.1896 m. Frederick Todd
• Susan Genner b.1899 m. Horace Dalton
• Edward (1900-1929) died at sea
• Samuel b.1903 in the Army in Palestine as a Military Policeman during and after WW11. Then a race horse trainer in Newmarket
• Alice b.1906 m.Frank Slater
• Theresa (1907)
• Albert b.1909 m.Phyllis Foster. Worked at Parkgate Iron and Steel Works as a overhead crane driver

James William Genner

James William Genner was born in 1891 at Rotherham, he married Ann Elizabeth Cornwell (1893-1953) in 1913.

Ann Elizabeth Cornwell (1893-1953) was the daughter of Thomas Cornwell (1871-1950) of Bottisham, Cambridgeshire and Elizabeth White (1873-1907) of Rawmarsh, Rotherham.

Children of James W. and Ann:

• James William (1914-1988) married Ethel Brown of Rotherham in 1916. They had one son (living)
• Ann (1916-1999) married Harry Ormonde Cox of Fareham, Hampshire. They had 3 daughters and one son
• Thomas (1921-2002) a Haulage Contractor, married Margaret (nee Fleming) at Whiston Parish Church in 1948. They had 2 daughters (living)
• Vera (1922-2003) married Edward Roddis (1916-1981) at Whiston Parish Church on 14/03/1946. They had one daughter (living)
• Samuel Fred (Freddie) ,Nurseryman, (1927-2000) Unmarried
• John Edward (1930-2005) married Margaret Anne (Nee Haslam (1939-1972) ) They had 4 children (living). He remarried Eileen in 1975 - they had 2 children.

James William Genner (1891-1968) was Gardener and Groundsman for Ben Bennett at Whiston Grange and later started a business at Guilthwaite Nurseries with his sons

Margaret Anne(Nee Haslam) of 117 Main Street, Aughton and John Genner son of J. W. Genner of The Nurseries, Guilthwaite, married at Talbot Lane Methodist Church. They lived at Rotherwood Lodge, Orgreave after they were married.

Rotherwood Hall, Highfield Lane, was once home to the Sorby's owners of Dore House Colliery.

Margaret Genner died in 1972.

John E died in 2005 and was buried at Whiston Parish Church
