Whiston Families

Hitchen Family

James Hitchen born 1806 married Mary Cooper (b.1811) at Rotherham. They had a son George.

George HITCHEN was born in 1843 in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. On the 1861 census he is not living with his family, he is living with Thomas Swaine, Shoemaker and family, in Darton, Barnsley. He is listed as an Apprentice Shoemaker. On both the 1891 and 1901 census for Guilthwaite, he is still listed as a Shoe and Boot Maker .

George married Sarah Rayner, born 1846, from Kilnhurst, Rotherham. They had at least seven children:

On the 1881 census George and family were living at 72 Drummond Street, Rotherham

By 1891 they were living at 13 Guilthwaite. It is noted, he was now an Employer.

James Arthur Hitchen married Betsey Copley in 1899 at Rotherham. In 1901 Census James lived next door to brother Robert on Guilthwaite Hill, the other neighbour was John Willam Foers. Children:

Robert Hitchen married Emily Coe around 1900.
According to the 1901 census, Robert and Emily were living in Whiston.
They were living at Bole Hill, Treeton in early 1900s.

Wm Hitchen, 1974 On the 1901 census, they had moved and were living in Guilthwaite.

Gladys Hitchen married George Sheard and they had 3 children:

Gladys Hitchen died in her 40's

George Sheard then married Elizabeth Carey.
