George Holmes,Ironmonger
Living at 27 Main Street, Whiston in 1891 was George Holmes and his family.
George Holmes¹ was born in Whiston about 1839. An Ironmonger and Kitchen Range Fitter, he was married to Emma (Nee Stanley) born in Whiston, about 1843, daughter of Hannah Stanley.
The 1881 census lists 8 children, and Emma's mother - Hannah Stanley,aged 80, living at 27 Main Street (all born in Whiston ):

By 1891, Hannah Stanley has died, Sarah, Annie and Emma Jane are no longer living here, Fred was born about 1885, and a grand daughter, Lizzie lives here.
George Arthur Holmes(1880-1941) born 29th January, 1880 married at Rotherham to Effie Roddis (b.12th March, 1881). They had one daughter Doris Holmes born 17th August, 1920 at Whiston.
George died 11th May, 1941 at Rotherham. Effie died 16th October, 1952 at Leeds.
Doris Holmes married twice. She was divorced from Horace Cutts in 1946. It is not known what date she married Ronald Roberts. Ronald and Doris had a son born in Leeds who married in Tredegar and had a son and a daughter.
