Jackson Family of Canklow Mill

George Jackson, brother of J. Jackson of Canklow Mills died in Oct 1839 aged 39

In September, 1842, John Jackson (jnr) married at Derby to Hannah, daughter of Joseph Stephenson, Railway contractor of Derby.

John Jackson had a daughter Sarah who married in October 1848 at Masbro Chapel to Rev. J. Parnell Palmer of Chorley.

It is not known when John Jackson died, he was dead at the time of Sarah's wedding, and in June 1849 the Corn Mill and Canklow house were advertised To Let.

By January, 1850, Rev. J. Earnshaw was running a select Classical and Mathematical School at Canklow House which received up to 12 young gentleman from about 12 years of age as boarders

A fire broke out at Canklow Corn Mill in March, 1856 causing damage estimated at £2000. The mills were the property of the Duke of Norfolk and occupied by Messrs. Moorhouse & Hague.

In 1862 George Moorhouse, junior was seeking a position in a merchants or millers office. An advert he placed in the Liverpool Mercury stated he had 6 years experience.

George Appleyard was running Canklow Mill in 1888 when fire caused £5000 damage.
