Whiston Families

Marshall

Thomas MARSHALL, son of John, born 1788 Sheffield married 1808 at Silkstone to Mary BADGER. Their son John, born married at Penistone to Mary Ann CROSSLAND.

John Marshall (1836-1892), a stone mason, was born in July, 1836 at Thurgoland, Penistone, Yorkshire. His parents were John Marshall and Mary Crossland. In 1857 he married Mary Hogton at Whiston Parish Church.

Children:

Mary Marshall (Nee Hogton) married again after the death of John. In 1901 she was living at Gorse Farm, Brampton-en-le-Morthen with her new husband William Neep aged 63, a farmer from Sheffield. Living with them:

They employed a farm labourer, John Gibling, age 50 from Ireland

In 1891 James (b 1858), a Mason had married Emily, they had a daughter Laura A Jarvis and were living at 16 Moorhouse. By 1901 the family had moved to Laughton-en-le-Morthen

Martha (1863-1904) had married James Goucher (1861-1940) in 1883, an Agricultural Labourer they were living at 1 Brookside with 4 children.

John and Martha were living at 18 Moorhouse, Whiston with 6 children and one grandchild Gertrude, age 9:

Gertrude Marshall married in 1906 at Whiston to Frederick Charles WADSWORTH, b. 1864 Bramley, well & shaft sinker. She died at her home on The Green, Whiston in 1939.
