Micklethwaite Iron Founder
William Micklethwaite was the son of John Richard MICKLETHWAITE, born Rotherham 1809 and Mary RUSHWORTH daughter of Edward of Cottingham nr. Hull
William H. Micklethwaite, the Iron Founder, was born about 1843 at Mexborough.
He was married to Clara from Shaphouse Penistone. In 1881 the family were living at Ordnance Villa, Psalters Lane, Kimberworth, Rotherham:

William Henry Micklethwaite, son of William Henry Micklethwaite, was born at Red House (later known as Swinden House) in 1886. He died at Broom Grange, Rotherham in 1947. In 1932 he was Joint Managing Director of his father's iron foundry business in Masbro. He played cricket for Yorkshire in 1911 and football for Rotherham. He was buried in Whiston, where several other Micklethwaites are buried.
Fred Micklethwaite founded the Rotherham Swifts - a rival to Rotherham Town Football club. He had been goalkeeper and Hon. secretary for the Town Club.
