Rawson Family of Upperthorpe and Whiston
John Rawson, of Upperthorpe and Dodworth, bp. 13 Dec 1577 at Sheffield, yeoman; married Elizabeth Burrows, sister of Richard Burrows of Tinsley,
They had at least 4 children including :
- Margaret (c1613) married Robert Stacey of Owlerton Hall son and heir of Malin Stacey, Lord of the manor.
- Edward of Upperthorpe, died in 1669
- Thomas Rawson, M.A., (c1611), Vicar of Ledsham and Rector of Whiston), had lands at Brightside by his father’s will, buried in Dec 1681 at Whiston
- Elizabeth (c1618), married Malin Sorsby of Sheffield, on 14th October, 1635. (He was the son of Robert Sorsby of Sheffield, cutler, first master of Company of Cutlers, who gave them as a marriage settlement a house in Sheffield and the Shepherds Fields at Crookes; bur. 8 Dec 1680, Sheffield)

- Robert SORSBY, bp. 25 Dec 1636, Sheffield, gent., lord of manor of Owlerton 1691, m. Elizabeth REVEL on 3 Jun 1674 at Sheffield.
- Malin SORSBY, D.D., of Riton, bishopric of Durham, 1683.
Thomas Rawson, MA, who was born in Sheffield on 28th April, 1611, was vicar of Ledsham and Rector of Whiston in 1670, he had lands at Brightside by his father's will. Thomas Rawson was the Duke of Norfolks agent responsible for collecting rents for the Manor of Handsworth and Highfield. He was the son of John Rawson, of Upperthorpe and Dodworth, bp. 13 Dec 1577 at Sheffield,yeoman; and Elizabeth Burrows, daughter of Richard Burrows (Boroughs) of Guilthwaite. He was buried in December 1681 at Whiston.
Catherine, dau. of Thomas Rawson married William Burley of Greenhill, Gent 11 June 1679.
