Turner family of Whiston from 1653
John Turner was born about 1653 in Whiston. He married Sarah Harrison (c.1658), daughter of John Harrison, on 3rd February, 1686 at Whiston.
They had a son Thomas, christened on 30th March, 1690 at Whiston.
John died 19 Feb 1728.Sarah died on 4th May, 1743 and was buried At Whiston.
Thomas married Alice Wainwright (1678-1742) of Whiston, on 23 Jan 1723/1724; they had a son Edward christened 29 May 1730 at Whiston. IGI lists a son Thomas born 1724.
Alice was the daughter of William (1673-1746) and Jane Wainwright both of Whiston.
Edward Turner married Mary Roebuck, daughter of Robert Roebuck (1660-1752) of Conisbrough and Elizabeth Hilton of Whiston, on 4th September 1749.
Mary Roebuck was christened on 21st July, 1729 at Whiston.
Edward and Mary Roebuck probably moved to Laughton-en-le-Morthen, where their daughter Elizabeth was born on 16 Jun 1752. According to Family search, Elizabeth married Robert Wasden on 5 Jun 1775 at Laughton where she died on 26 Dec 1836 and was buried at Tickhill.
Robert and Elizabeth Wasden had 3 children, all born at Laughton-en-le-Morthen:
- Elizabeth, christened: 27 May 1776.
- William (1786-1875) christened 3 Sep 1786 Married Mary Ann Penniston on 13 Dec 1813
- Hannah, christened 1 Aug 1791. Buried, 10 Sep 1809
Robert Turner
In 1871 Robert Turner, age 48?, a Stone Mason from Wickersley, was living with his wife Eliza age 41, from Greasbrough. Children (all born in Whiston):
- William age 19
- Robert J age 13
- Joseph age 11
- Charlotte age 7. Servant in the Merryweather household in 1881
- Thomas age 5
- Tim age 3
- Albert
By 1881 Eliza is a widow and working as a laundress, Joe, now a College porter and Albert are still living with her. Thomas is living at the Brecks with the Duckmanton family.
Sarah Turner married Joseph Roddis at Whiston on 24 NOV 1813
Jane Oxley married a Thomas Turner on 25 June 1833 at Whiston. (Source IGI)
