Whitehead

In 1723 a John Whitehead inherited properties in Dalton Magna and Dalton Parva from William Stead

In February 1742, Rev. John Griffith, clerk, younger son of the Rev. John Griffith of Eckington Derby, doctor of Divinity, leased to John Whitehead the elder of Whiston, gentleman, and John Whitehead the younger, his only son, Abdy Farm, for the sum of £2,000.

In September, 1749, John Whitehead, the elder, of Whiston, gentleman, conveyed to John Whitehead the younger, his son, Abdy Farm with three lands in the Quarrell Close purchased from Thomas Hirst of Neither Dalton, and a parcel of meadow in the Little Mean Mill Croft purchased of Goodeth Tunnicliffe, for £1,000.

On the death in 1766 of John Whitehead senior, all estates were passed to John Whitehead junior

In Mar 1789 William Taylor conveyed to John Whitehead his seven eighth parts of the two Tomlin Thornes, the Monday Croft and the Picking field, for £620 (Dalton).

Also in March, 1789, an assignment of Samuel Lister's life interest to John Whitehead records: Samuel Lister of Sheffield, innkeeper, Thomas Lister of the same, baker, whose mother Hannah Lister was the daughter of Martha Hall late wife of George Hall of Outibridge, cutler, also deceased, to John Whitehead of Whiston. One eighth part of lands in Dalton Parva, not only those in which Samuel Lister assigned his life interest but of the other lands, all composed in the three conveyances of John Kent and John Foljambe; for £227 10s. 0d.

In Jul 1779, John Kent and John Foljambe leased to John Whitehead, seven of eight parts of closes in Dalton called Lane Hood Close, two Dean Bank Closes, Great Ridding, Little Ridding. Broom Flatt and the Hostidge, for £60, paid to John Kent.

John WHITEHEAD (1723-1766) was born at Laughton-en-le-Morthen in 1723 LELM, the son of George who married in 1747 at Sheffield to Catherine MARSH, born 1723 at Whiston, daughter of George and Catherine. Children born Whiston:

On 19 December, 1630 Dame Mary Partington of Thorpe Salvin gave to John Whitehead, yeoman, of Thorpe Salvin and Alice, his wife - a corn mill and closes in Thorpe Salvin.
