Estates and Land Surveys
Surveys of Whiston Manor were carried out by Immanuel Halton.between 1668-1685. Details of each farm-house were taken as well as the names of fields.
Most of the property was on lease for 21 years from 1650.

Scope and Content . Between Thomas, Earl of Arundel, and others, and Lionel Copley of Browme in the parish of Whiston, Thomas St. Nicholas of Ash, Kent, Leonard Pinkney of London and Christopher Copley of Wadworth, for the leasing of Worlds' End at Ecclesfield, the Holmes and Castle Meadow in Attercliffe and Dewhurst Close in Sheffield. The lessors reserve rights to 2,000 cords of wood yearly; the lessees agree to erect two iron forges, etc.
Notes:Lionel Copley, of Broom in the parish of Whiston, in 1603 he took the lease of Attercliffe Forge, by 1637 had converted the Sheffield fulling mill into a forge and in 1641 he erected two furnaces and forges at Wardsend. He also obtained leases of the Conisbrough ironworks and Rockley furnace. By the middle of the seventeenth century he was a leading figure in the Iron Trade of South Yorkshire.

Agreement with Edward Fretwell of Wickersley, concerning getting coals on a piece of waste ground in the Manor of Whiston called Herringthorpe; for seven years at 7d. for every wainload of coals got.
1750. Agreement of Wm. Simpson that he purchased from Thomas Howard, nephew of Edward, Duke of Norfolk, his estate in remainder of and in the Advowsons of Handsworth, Whiston and Treeton, on behalf of John Griffith the elder, for £400, which was the proper money of the said Griffith.

Lease for 21 years to Thomas Hardwick the elder of Whiston, farmer; property: messuage and fields in Upper Whiston; rent £105, three boon work days.
In 1794 another survey was carried out by W. Fairbank, which included some intermediate lands in Whiston, Treeton and Handsworth He described this in several maps.
