According to Thomas Langdale's Topographical Dictionary of Yorkshire , in 1822, the Parish of Whiston contained:
- Whiston, - described as a parish-town, in the upper-division of Strafforth and Tickhill, in the liberty of Hallamshire; 2 miles SE. of Rotherham, 7½ miles from Sheffield, 11 miles from Tickhill, 50 miles from York.
- Canklow
- Guilthwaite, - GILTHWAITE, in the township of Whiston, and parishes of Whiston and Rotherham, upper-division of Stainforth and Tickhill; (Gilthwaite-Hall, the seat of John Outram, Esq.) 2 miles from Rotherham, 5 miles from Sheffield, 12 miles from Worksop,Notts.
- Herringthorpe
- Morthen: Morthen-Hall, the seat of Nicholas Timm, Esq.
